The Importance of Audio Visual Tools for your Business
April 30, 2015If you’ve read T.H. White, The Once and Future King, then you’ve read this quote which is the epitome of the value of life and what we all strive for no matter what business we work in: “You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honour trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is only one thing for it then — to learn.”
Yes, learning needs to be our lifelong commitment, but especially when we work in the corporate or business world. That’s when we all learn to become constant teachers and students.
Some people are innate teachers, they are passionate, compassionate and giving teachers. These are the people that transmit knowledge in an effective way that is memorable.
Does that mean you have to be a good teacher to give a good presentation at work? Not necessarily, but every good teacher knows that he/she must integrate audio and visual elements into their presentations to help get the message across; to help students retain that information.
The same holds true for a business project, workshop or presentation. You must use visual aid tools to help get the message across.
Audio/visual aids used in business communication help participants remain attentive and retain the information in a visual way. The tools used for these aids are also known as multimedia tools, and are used to present visual, auditory and interactive media or information.
They Aid in the Retention of Information
According to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Training and Education, people have a difficult time in retaining information three to five days after a meeting, conference or event. But this rentention increases by as much as six times when the information is presented online. It is the combination of sight and sound with the oral presentation that promotes and reinforces this retention.
Using Visual Aids Saves Time
The use of audio visual tools can also save you time, especially when the topics and information are lengthy. The use of projectors to present graphs, diagrams, photograpsh, videos and animation help you explain information more accurately and concisely. Audiovisual equipment can include white boards, projectors, flip charts and more.
Types of Business Audio Visual Tools
There are actually a number of different audio visual tools for businesses, and the type you use will depend on your business needs. However, most companies use tools such as projectors, interactive whiteboards, mp3 or mp4 players, and projection tools that connect to the television.
Engagement is Important
Like a teacher, as a presenter you are transmitting important information, specs, ideas and you need to use multiple mediums during any presentation to make it more interesting, to make participants sit up and listen to what you have to say. You want your listeners to interact and become a part of the session. When people are engaged they retain and understand more. However games, learning activities, visual and audio information can’t be presented, unless your company has the right audio/visual tools. It’s these that allow a presenter to get a little creative with his/her ideas.
