Untap Your Environmental Potential with Energy Efficient Solutions for Your Home and Office
April 15, 2015The world is a changing place and these are taking place continually in every aspect of our lives. We are moving into a time of world harmony but each of us needs to participate in making this world a better place.
Where do you start?
Look at what’s wrong, and then start doing your part to make the change that’s needed.
One of the biggest places you can make that change is in your home.
We all know that one of the biggest issues we have today is global warming. So the easiest way to make a difference is to make your home more energy efficient so you use less of it to run those important conveniences. As such, we've listed 5 energy efficient solutions for your home or office. Implement any of these to help our modern world, but more importantly, to help you save energy and money.
1. Change the Lighting
Traditional electric light burns about 25% of the home or office energy budget. And the electricity used in an incandescent bulb costs about 5 to 10 times more than the new Light Emitting Diode (LEDs). These new LED lighting systems are revolutionizing the electric lighting efficiency.
LEDs are tiny bulbs that are grouped into clusters and covered with a diffuser lens to increase the power of the light. These are LEDs that require a much lower wattage often only using 5 to 30 Watts but giving off a significant amount of light.
2. Install Tankless Water Heater
A tankless water heater is also another way to save on energy. This provides hot water on an as need basis. It doesn’t cause energy loss and saves you money. A tankless system is a water heater without a storage tank, made with a technology that allows it to heat instantly as needed. These provide hot water at a rate of 2 to 5 gallons per minute.
3. Use Energy Efficient Appliances
Energy efficient appliances are those that do more with less energy and less water. These types of energy rated appliances save money and improve the world because they require fewer natural resources. Energy efficiency appliances are not harsh on the environment and offer a better quality of life. Just choose energy efficient appliances that have a high star rating.
4. Use A Water Efficient Showerhead
Replace a conventional showerhead with a low-flow or water efficient model. This is an inexpensive and quick task that can save on your water and energy bills. Replacing the showerhead can save about 15,000 gallons of water per year on your water consumption.
5. Install a Low Flow Toilet
A low flow toilet is a flush toilet that uses less water than a standard toilet as it uses about 1.6 gallons less. There are two types here; the single or dual flush models. When you live in an older home, built prior to the 1980’s you may not have a low-flow toilet in your home and may have higher water bills as a result.
Bottom Line
There are more than a few energy efficient solutions for your home or office. Of course, if your budget permits then you might also want to look into alternative energy options such as solar panel electric energy or solar water heating systems. There are even small wind energy options for home and office.
